Daily Listening Program

Orpheus' flagship program brings musical instruction directly into the classroom for children and youth. The Daily Listening Program is currently reaching XXX pupils in six (6) Nazareth-based schools (Razi & Majd (Public), Masar (Experimental), Baptist, Muhalis and Anglican (Religious)).

Each morning, an Orpheus instructor presents to a classroom a musical piece (primarily, but not exclusively western classical) 3 – 5 minutes in length. At each session, the instructor focuses on any of several concepts, such as rhythm, musical structure and instrument identification; information about the composer is also presented. Discussion follows during which the pupils share aloud the thoughts and feelings they experienced during the piece. The benefits are improved attentive listening and concentration and increased recognition of music and its components. For nearly all pupils the Daily Listening Program is their first exposure to western classical music and for most their first opportunity to learn about and with music and not only listen.
