Maftech (KeyNote) Program
The Mafteh Program of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) gives young people the opportunity to see a live western classical performance. Since 2003, Orpheus has been in partnership with IPO, which means that certified instructors prepare the pupils in their classrooms in Nazareth according to an approved curriculum in preparation for attending a live concert in Tel Aviv.
Over the course of the school semester, a certified instructor works with each classroom of participating students on a weekly basis. The pupils listen to the selected pieces from the upcoming program and discuss the music from several vantages: the social and historical significance of the pieces and composers, the musical structure and composition, and their own emotional and intellectual reactions to the music.
Each year, the number of Orpheus pupils in the program has increased. In 2007, there is expected to be some 2,000 young boys and girls from Nazareth.
